COMPRESSION MOULDING
of SMC and BMC

Compression Moulding of Menzolit SMC is the method of choice to achieve the best performing parts in term of strength and surface quality. Menzolit, as an independent compounder  with many years of experience, will serve you with all the necessary support from starting first moulding activities to optimizing your process. We provide your compounding solution.

Basic requirements for a successful moulding process:

We recommend a press force of 1000 tons per square metre of moulded part, which can be reduced by using special Menzolit low pressure SMC.
Parallelism control helps to protect the mould and save material, for Class A surface quality it’s a must.
The design and construction of the mould is critical for achieving the correct part quality.
We recommend moulds made of steel with higher chrome content.
Shear-edges are essential for the moulding process.
De-moulding should be assisted by ejector pins and air valves.
The heating capability should be 130 to 160°C.
Class A parts generally require a chrome plated tool with vacuum assistance and In Mould Coating (IMC) capability.
Cutting table, balance and fixtures adapted to work with SMC rolls, JumboRolls or boxes complete the production equipment requirements. Recommended are fixing rigs for deflashing or secondary operations like drilling as well as cooling racks for maintaining part dimensional accuracy. Almost complete automation of the process is possible. Ask us for more details.

INJECTION and INJECTION COMPRESSION

Injection Moulding of Menzolit BMC & SMC is the method of choice to get the best performance of high volume parts in term of strength and tight dimensional tolerances.

Menzolit, as an independent compounder with many years of experience, will serve you with all the necessary support, from starting first moulding activities to optimizing your process.  We provide your compounding solution.

Basic requirements for a successful injection process:

  • Injection machine

There are a variety of injection machines especially designed for BMC & SMC moulding. Moulding compound is delivered to the liquid tempered injection unit by a screw-feed or plunger system. Screws (charging type without compression) are usually equipped with a check valve.

  • Mould

We recommend moulds made of steel with high chrome content.

Additional chrome plating will increase productivity and durability.

Shear-edges are recommended and in any case essential for injection compression moulding. De-gassing should be assisted by ejector pins and optional vacuum assistance. Slides, cold runner and gate cutter systems are as usual as stamping of cores. Heating capability from 130 to 200°C with control of ± 3°C on the tool surface.

  • Peripheral Equipment

Robotic systems for part removal and all post-moulding operations such as deflashing, drilling or machining.

  • Automation

Complete automation of the process including post-moulding operations is possible.
